How are 'Avengers: Endgame' and 'Avatar' related to each other?

When "Endgame" reached $ 2 billion, "Avatar" is the name that most Marvel fans and movie lovers call out.

Released exactly 10 years apart, "Avengers: Endgame" and "Avatar" were all compared to each other by netizens soon after leaving “Titanic” behind. In addition to the big revenue, how are these 2 blockbusters related to each other?

1. They both keep in hand the huge revenue and amazing records

Fans need not doubt about the power of "Endgame". Only after 10 days of launch, Marvel blockbuster has reached $ 2 billion, which other films take nearly 2 months. Of course, this number will continue to rise when the work will remain in the theater for a long time because of the attraction of superheroes. Now, the film has surpassed “Titanic” to sit in second place on the highest grossing chart of all time.

Meanwhile, if “Endgame” is running like a horse, “Avatar” was slower. When it was first released, “Avatar” did not shatter the record of fast sales like Endgame. “Avatar” was not even in the top 10 films to reach $500 million fastest. However, James Cameron's work was more popular in box offices than half a year thanks to the breakthrough 3D effect. Therefore Avatar's 2.788 billion  is completely different from the rest and almost cannot be overcome.

2. A movie is the beginning, and the other marks the end

To achieve this success, "Avatar" and "Endgame" all have values for world cinema but they are completely opposite. In 2009, "Avatar" was born that marked the beginning of a new era of cinematic technology and effects. The film applied a series of new technologies at that time such as Motion Capture, the 3D camera with 24 frames per second.

The word "Avatar", a whole new generation of 3D movies was born and dominated the big screen for 10 years. Many of James Cameron's technologies have been adopted by Hollywood in blockbuster series like “Transformers”, “Planet of the Apes”, etc.

Meanwhile, Endgame has the meaning to mark the end of a Marvel superhero era. Launched in 2008, MCU gradually created a foothold in the hearts of fans when taking turns to the big screen of the unknown B-class superheroes. Finally, the blockbuster “The Avengers” (2012) brought together outstanding individuals like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk... and gave birth to the concept of the film universe.

Since then, each year the company released 2-3 films and more and more new characters have appeared. MCU gradually owns a large number of fans around the world and set up various records of revenue. However, the ending is part of the journey. Generations of old superheroes are old and want to end the contract to develop a new direction and give the playing field back to the younger group. Thus, “Endgame” is their goodbye as well as a final review of Marvel's long journey.

3. When will the second “Endgame” or “Avatar” appear?

Perhaps, it will take up to 10 years for the world to have a 2nd Endgame or Avatar. Because the movie effect now grows steadily over the years, it is hard for the audience to recognize the difference in skill between two blockbusters a few months apart.

At the beginning of the year, "Alita: Battle Angel" was nearly a disappointing bomb despite being carefully invested because it did not create new things in general. What we lack is a truly breakthrough technology in terms of 2D-to-3D experience like Avatar 10 years ago.

Meanwhile, in order to have another “Endgame”, Marvel will take as much time to build and develop the new characters to familiarize them with the public. If “Endgame” can't beat “Avatar”, then maybe no movie will be able to do it in the next few years.
