Billboard’s 2018 Woman of the Year goes to Ariana Grande
On December 6, Billboard’s Women in Music dinner and awards gala is planned to be held in New York. Following a series of grand stars like Taylor Swift (honored in 2014), Lady Gaga (2015), Madonna (2016) and Selena Gomez (2017), Ariana Grande is announced to be the next name to be honored thanks to her huge contributions to the community and the music industry.
Ross Scarano shares: “Ariana Grande is a star on her own terms, never bending to any particular musical trend or path in the industry. Certain in her convictions, she consistently stands up for herself and her decisions in a world that often isn’t hospitable to that sort of strength in young women.” Billboard’s vice president of content continues: “She’s got guts, she’s making some of the best music of her career, and she’s absolutely deserving of Woman of the Year.”
Grande is honored as the Woman of the Year in 2018 by Billboard magazine.
Since the day she decided to pursuit her singing career, Grande has brought the audience three albums which placed her on top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. Released in August, her latest album, which hit the first place on the chart, was Sweetener.
Grande's music always speaks for her personality. In the daily life, the 25-year-old singer is also widely known as a strong person who never fears unfolding what’s in her mind. Grande has made use of her influence to advocate the gun control laws in the United States, gender equality and LGBTQ rights.
After the nightmare bombing at Manchester Arena, Ariana Grande helped organize the benefit concert One Love Manchester, which grossed more than $ 23 million to support the victims and their families.
Ariana Grande is now the world's leading female pop singer.
On November 4, Grande released her new song Thank U, Next. It is an opening single which is aimed to pave the ways for her 5th studio album released in 2019. In the single, Grande recalls her four boyfriends Pete Davidson, Ricky Alvarez, Big Sean and even rapper Mac Miller, who has just passed away. Thank U, Next immediately became successful on global scale and conquered Worldwide iTunes Song Chart.
Ariana and rapper Mac Miller broke up in May 2018 after two years of dating. On 7 September, Mac Miller was found dead at home in California. It was reported that the cause of his death was drug overdose.
