9 ingredients that are harmful to facial skin

Many girls like trying homemade masks or other mixtures for their faces. However, you should be aware of what products are safe for the skin.

Here are 9 popular products that you should avoid when making homemade face masks.

Baking soda

The baking soda's granular texture looks like tiny particles found in facial scrubs. In fact, these ingredients are not good for the skin due to its strong cleansing properties. In addition, the pH value of the skin is in the range of 4.5-5.7. Meanwhile, the pH of baking soda is up to 9, which is too high in alkalinity and is not suitable for facial skin. Applying baking soda to the skin only makes the skin drier, dehydrated and even peeled.

Many people have a habit of applying toothpaste to red rashes or acne scars, hoping that these nasty nipples will quickly disappear. This should not be done because toothpaste completely has no effect on acne. Moreover, toothpaste contains ingredients such as peppermint, peroxide, artificial flavors, alcohol, which can burn the skin and cause dryness or redness. Better yet, you should use acne treatment products containing benzoyl peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide

In the case of skin scratches or minor injuries, hydrogen peroxide is a very effective. However, using this chemical compound as a skin care product is not a good idea. Hydrogen peroxide causes skin rashes. Used too often, it can also damage the skin's protective layer and negatively impact the skin's moisture.

Sugar and salt

These two products exfoliate dead skin on the body quite well. However, you should not apply them on your face skin because it is thinner and more sensitive than other parts of the body. You can mix olive oil with brown sugar to create a perfect exfoliator for the body skin, except facial skin.

Many girls like to use cinnamon to treat acne. However, cinnamon can cause the facial skin feel like being burnt. As a consequence, the skin becomes dry, and acne gets even worse. Dermatologists also recommend that large doses of cinnamon for long terms can cause irreparable harms to the facial skin.

Hand creams

Hand skin is not as sensitive as facial skin. Our hands are exposed to detergents and sanitary products almost every day. Rubbing the hand creams on the face can clog the pores, leaving the skin dry and irritated. In addition, hand creams can also contain ingredients that cause severe allergic signs on facial skin.

Many people believe that alcohol can help facial skin quickly hit nasty acne. However, alcohol will destroy the protective layer of the skin, causing the skin to produce abundant sebum to protect itself. The protective film is destroyed and so bacteria, dirt and other harmful factors can penetrate the skin or make the skin dry.

Hot water

Hot water causes the skin to lose moisture, leaving the skin to dry and destroying the natural barrier of the skin. That's why many people find red spots on their skin after bathing in hot water. Hot water is particularly harmful to people with psoriasis, eczema, and psoriasis. For people with acne, hot water can even cause acne to spread faster to other areas.

Many girls suppose that lemon can help to remove dark spots, freckles or acne on the skin. However, the pH value of lemon juice is in the range of 2-3, which means that it is too rich in acid. Therefore, when you apply lemon juice on the face, it will corrode the skin. Oil in citrus fruits also makes the skin more susceptible to sunburn.
